Christian Leadership Principles

Christian Leadership

Christian leadership can only be effective as leaders abide (live, remain, stay, continue) in Christ. The union of leaders in Him and Him in leaders is the source of effective leadership in Christianity. Jesus said, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5 NKJV) If there is not a union of leaders in Him and Him in leaders, how can people call leadership "Christian?" When leaders step out in their own power, the result is human leadership, not God's leadership. There can be not Christian leadership unless it is in union with Christ and Christ is the true leader of the ministry.

Christian Leader

Church leadership, congregational leadership or ministry leadership are for a Christian leader, a function of regency. A regent is an agent (or representative) of a king. For example, if a king is too young to rule or if the king is going to be out of the country for a time, a regent serves as the representative of the king. A regent is a substitute who fulfills the agenda of the absent king. In the case of Christian leadership, they may have the title of a leader, such as pastor, elder, deacon, or director; however, they are not the real leader. The real leader is God. All who have the title of "leader" are regents of the true leader, God.

Biblical Based Christian Leadership

Robnett and Quist do an admirable job of presenting biblical-based leadership for the church in a clear and understandable fashion. The Spirit Driven Church is a must-read for all church leaders -- pastors and Christian leaders. The concepts presented are solid and foundational to building a thriving transformational church. Keep the book close to your desk and read it often.
